Gold is an ancient metal, which was known by human mankind from ancient time. Few unique properties of this metal make it very important for all civilisations. Here we will consider these properties of this metal.

Nice colour – it is very funny to think about metal according to its colour, but nevertheless, the nice yellow look of the pure gold make this metal very interesting for all jewellery production.

Presence as a metal – Because this metal were present as a pure metal it was available for human from the earliest time. There no technological knowledge was required for producing gold. This metal was already available, which is very important at the beginning of the technological progress.

Low melting temperature. Low melting temperature makes this metal very continent for ancient melting. It is reasonably easy to solder any gold pieces by simplest fire heaters.

High plasticity. This metal is very plastic and hammering in goldsmith was reasonable easy process. From the other hand, the golden jewellery was liable to quick worn and required regular maintenance and fixing – another good reason for increasing of goldsmith turnover.

Rareness of this metal. Gold is reasonable rare metal. Despite it presence as a pure metals it is very rare in the nature and this make very high price for everything which contains pure gold or gold alloys.

Modern applications of gold is extended due to its electric and chemical properties. Gold is very resistant to all oxidations and very good electricity conducting material. That is why gold is used for electric contacts and for many chemical reactions as a sealing material.
